We publish what moves the number rather than a single figure, because a quote that turns out to be low helps nobody.
- Flue length and how many stories up the roof access is
- Creosote stage — brushable soot is routine; glazed Stage 3 creosote needs chemical treatment or rotary chain and costs more
- Whether the chimney is straight or has offsets that need extra rod work
- How long since the last sweep — first sweeps on a long-neglected system take significantly longer
- Wood-burning versus gas: gas flues are usually faster but often reveal corrosion instead

Why it matters
Creosote is what burns in a chimney fire. A quarter-inch of glazed buildup in a masonry flue is enough to sustain one, and a chimney fire can crack clay tile liners in a way that lets combustion gases into the framing on the next burn.
Questions we get asked
How often should a chimney be swept in Kansas City?
Once a year for anything you burn regularly. NFPA 211 calls for an annual inspection regardless of use — Kansas City winters mean most fireplaces here run enough wood to justify a yearly sweep, and freeze-thaw cycling makes the annual look at the masonry worth it on its own.
Will sweeping make a mess in my house?
It should not. We lay drop cloths and run a HEPA vacuum at the hearth for the whole job. If we leave soot in your room, that is on us to clean.
Do you sweep gas fireplaces too?
